The first ever post for this blog and I thought it would be really fun for all three of us bloggers to answer questions, just to give a more personal feel! And what better way to do that than to have us all answer a questionnaire about ....you guessed it.....BOOKS! We are each so different and yet so similar and that's why having such variety on a blog will make things so interesting.
So shall we?
20 QUESTIONS BOOK TAG
1. HOW MANY BOOKS ARE TOO MANY FOR A SERIES?
Sarah: I would honestly say , as long as you are enjoying it, there is never too many..... but I think that could be a lie. I loved the Anita Blake series and then, I think because it kept going, the author tried to be too shocking and now I despise the later half. But here I am wishing I had more of Captive Prince, so in the end it just really depends.
Ashley: I have to agree with Sarah, if you're enjoying the series, that's all that matters. Though, I do find myself needing breaks at times during long series; which helps when I'm waiting for the next book to come out.
Paige: It really does depend on the series. I am finding it harder and harder to keep up with longer series, no matter how much I enjoy them. Generally, I wait until a series says it's finished and then I can read it without having to wait for the others to come out.
2. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT CLIFFHANGERS?
Sarah: I don't mind them! I think that if we have cliff hangers it gets us excited for even more. Unless it will take years to get the book ( * cough * Iron Fey * cough * ) then you lose that passion. It's even better if your friends read it too so you can analyze and discuss what you think will happen!
Ashley: I personally like cliffhangers. It keeps me pumped for the next book. Like Sarah mentioned, waiting for a book that takes years to be released sucks. Especially if said book ends up being a disappointment.
Paige: I don't mind them, so long as I don't have to wait more than 2 years for the next book!
3. HARDCOVER OR PAPERBACK?
Sarah: Hardcover! Mostly because I take mine with me and it's much more sturdy. Bonus with paperback is that it is cheaper, but I get picky if I get fold lines or creases with my paperbacks.
Ashley: If I had to choose, it would be hardcover, but I don't mind paperback. I am stingy when it comes to my books; therefore my paperbacks need to look as good as when I bought them.
Paige: I like both, can't say I really have a preference. The only thing I ak a stickler for is of I start a series in one format, I like the keep the rest of them in the same format.
4. FAVORITE BOOK?
Sarah: This is really difficult for me to choose! I can give my top 3, but even that is difficult! Let's see.....: Grisha Series by Leigh Bardugo ( Because the love for Nikolai is real), Captive Prince Series by C.S. Pacat, and The Infernal Devices Series by Cassandra Clare ( It took me forever to even touch it, but thanks to Ash I did and do I regret it? Never! I love Jem!)
Ashley: What can I say? I freaking love books. It is hard to pick just one, but unlike Sarah, haha, I will pick one. The Grisha series by Leigh Bardugo.
Paige: I can't choose just one. My favorites tend to change based on how I am feeling, or was feeling at the time I read a book.
5. LEAST FAVORITE BOOK?
Sarah: Am I about to get some hate by putting down Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas? To be fair it started of wonderfully, but just down the line the main character got annoying, Rhy was my sarcastic man who turned into a giant cinnamon roll, and then Tamlin got the short end of the author stick by getting his personality completely changed to make others hate him...... I have a lot of feels about this and her other series.....
Ashley: Kissed By an Angel by Elizabeth Chandler. I never could finish it.
Paige: Animal Farm by George Orwell. I despised that book when I had to read it in high school.
6. LOVE TRIANGLES, YES OR NO?
Sarah: I don't necessarily mind them. If they aren't super cliche then I am ok because it keeps you guessing.
Ashley: Heck yes, bring on the feels!!
Paige: Noooooo I hate them so much haha! I will literally avoid a book if it's entire premise is about a love triangle. Not to say i won't read them at all, just that they definitely aren't a favorite.
7. THE MOST RECENT BOOK YOU COULDN’T FINISH?
Sarah: Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa....... I finished it, but only to add it to my prompt list and that is the ONLY reason I did. I won't write why this is the case, because I do not want to offend or put any spoilers......
Ashley: Neuromancer by William Gibson. I did finish it, but I sure did skim the pages. I was doing a book challenge and had to read a cyberpunk book. It was not my cup of tea (and that's saying something since I don't like tea.)
Paige: The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter. I tend to struggle with high fantasy books, just because they are a bit wordy for me. And I listened to this one on Audible and the narrator's voice was so soothing, I started falling asleep.
8. A BOOK YOU’RE CURRENTLY READING?
Sarah: Crimson Crown by Cinda Williams Chima and Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
Ashley: I am reading Crimson Crown by Cinda Williams Chima. Sarah and I get together on Monday's to chat about it.
Paige: Nevernight by Jay Kristoff (hard copy) and The Things We Cannot Say by Kelly Rimmer (Audible).
9. LAST BOOK YOU RECOMMENDED TO SOMEONE?
Sarah: Most recent one that I have recommended would be Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. Telling you the Jem x Will brotherly love is on point!
Ashley: The Seven Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima.
Paige: I think the last book I recommended to someone was actually a manga though I am drawing a blank on which one it was now.
10. OLDEST BOOK YOU’VE READ BY PUBLICATION DATE?
Sarah: No Longer Human by Dazai Osamu published January 17th 1958 ( .....yes I may have read this due to a certain character on an anime called Bungou Stray Dogs......no judging! )
Ashley: Le Morte d'Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory.
Paige: I honestly have no idea. I rarely ever look at publication date.
11. NEWEST BOOK YOU’VE READ BY PUBLICATION DATE?
Sarah: Tunnel of Bones by Victoria Schwab published on September 3, 2019 and let me just say it was so cute and I can not wait for more of this series.
Ashley: Freaks Like Me by Georgina Peterson.
Paige: I believe it was Deathcaster by Cinda Williams Chima, released this year.
12. FAVORITE AUTHOR?
Sarah: Oh goodness I have a few so I am just going to list some : V.E. Schwab, Leigh Bardugo , Laini Taylor, CS Pacat, and Cassandra Clare
Ashley: At this moment Leigh Bardugo.
Paige: I have a few that I recognize and will read almost anything they write, but as for favorite...Kelley Armstrong is the first to come to mind.
13. BUYING BOOKS OR BORROWING BOOKS?
Sarah: I have a bad habit of buying books. I don't really borrow, but when I do if I like it enough I will go purchase my own. It's great to borrow, especially if you aren't sure you will enjoy the read or not, but if I am in a book store and I see it ( provided I have enough funds ) then I go snag it for myself.
Ashley: Sarah and I do have a problem with buying books. I love to buy books!! But also, I enjoy borrowing books, mainly from Sarah. We both respect each others books haha.
Paige: So I should probably borrow more books than I do, because my wallet would love the break. But I don't read as quickly as my fellow nerds here, so it is easier for me to just buy a book and not have to worry about giving it back by a certain time.
14. A BOOK YOU DISLIKE THAT EVERYONE SEEMS TO LOVE?
Sarah: A Court of Thorns and Roses and the last half of the Throne of Glass series. Bothe by Sarah J Maas........
Ashley: Divergent by Veronica Roth. The world she built was entirely cool!! I just couldn't get attached to any of the charactres. Though I did appreciate her ending to the final book. I finally felt something for the characters.
Paige: I can't really think of one. It doesn't help that I have yet to read some of the more popular series!
15. Bookmarks or Dogears?
Sarah: Bookmarks for sure!!!! As a child I may have committed the crime of dog earring but now I don't.
Ashley: Bookmarks!! Never dogears!!
Paige: Bookmarks. I used to dogear and bend the spines of books, and then I realized how much damage I was doing to my precious books and didn't want to keep doing that.
16. A BOOK YOU CAN ALWAYS RE-READ?
Sarah: Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling Seriously, it's a classic and I try to read this every year if I can.
Ashley: The Grisha Series!!
Paige: The Host by Stephanie Meyer. I don't usually re-read books (too large of a TBR pile to justify it), but this one I have re-read more than once.
17. CAN YOU READ WHILE LISTENING TO MUSIC?
Sarah: It really depends. Sometimes I have music on and still get sucked into the book to the point the music gets drowned out, but I typically do not have it on. If anything if family is watching tv and it isn't interesting then I can usually read and not lose any focus.
Ashley: Music and the tv being too loud will distract me. So I would rather not have music going.
Paige: I don't mind music being on. Actually, my favorite thing to do while reading is to put on instrumental music. Preferably piano and/or violin based. There are songs that will remind me of the book I was reading while it was playing.
18. ONE POV OR MULTIPLE?
Sarah: I don't have any real preferences to this. Multiple can be interesting so that you can understand what is going on in other character's minds, but it needs to be obvious. If I can't differentiate and have to wonder what voice is being used then we got a bit of a problem.
Ashley: I'm down with both. As Sarah said, I need to hear distinct voices or else it will blend and sound like the same character. I had that problem when first reading the 5th Wave.
Paige: I don't mind either. Depends on how big of a world the author has written.
19. DO YOU READ A BOOK IN ONE SITTING OR OVER MULTIPLE DAYS?
Sarah: If I have the time and it's a super good book that isn't exceptionally long then I can probably finish it in a day, but most times its multiple days.
Ashley: Over multiple days. I enjoy not rushing.
Paige: Very rarely can I read a book in one sitting. I struggle to sit still for that long. It has to be a really good book to get me to sit for that long.
